On April 24 Edison’s Jog-A-Thon is all about bringing that excitement to life.

Detalles y Consideraciones
Espectadores deben entrar y salir por Kansas Avenue.

How toTalk to Children During Challenging Times
While we work hard to continue to create the culture and community we want for our children at school, we recognize that there are external circumstances that can be challenging for families. Children inevitably become aware of or even experience these challenges. Parents have asked for guidance on how to communicate with their children about these challenges, as well as how to handle their own emotions. Family Services of Santa Monica will present a parent workshop on this issue this week. The presentation will be in Spanish with English translation available.
We will have two presentation times to accommodate parent schedules.:
Wednesday, 8:30-9:30 am
Thursday, 6:00-7:00 pm (childcare, pizza and drinks will be provided)

Cómo hablar con los niños en tiempos difíciles
Si bien nos esforzamos por seguir creando la cultura y la comunidad que deseamos para nuestros hijos en la escuela, reconocemos que existen circunstancias externas que pueden ser difíciles para las familias. Es inevitable que los niños se den cuenta o incluso experimenten estos desafíos. Los padres han solicitado orientación sobre cómo comunicarse con sus hijos sobre estos desafíos, así como sobre cómo manejar sus propias emociones. Servicios Familiares de Santa Mónica ofrecerá esta semana un taller para padres sobre este tema. La presentación será en español con traducción al inglés disponible.

The Fiesta Familiar is approaching fast!
I'll take place on Friday, February 20th, 4:30pm-8:00pm, and will feature the famous Lotería, DJ, photo booth, games, silent auction, food / desserts provided by the 5th grade parents… you know: A lot of fun!
HELP IS NEEDED to make it a success. You probably have already received an email from your Room Rep asking for your participation in your classroom's basket for the Lotería, and there will be more things to do.

Career Day
Career Day is Looking for Participants
We are still seeking parents and community members to participate in our second Career Day on Wednesday, February 11 from 9:55a–12:35p. We are especially hoping to highlight individuals who are bilingual and use more than one language in their work. We also aim to include a wide range of professions (health services, skilled trades, business, public service, STEM, education, legal, arts, and more).
In addition, we welcome volunteers to help with coordinating on the day of the event (set-up, guiding speakers, taking photos, etc.).
If you or someone you know would like to participate as a speaker or volunteer, please complete the CAREER DAY INTEREST FORM.
Please respond by January 23.
Career Day (Día de las Profesiones): Buscamos Participantes
Todavía estamos buscando padres y miembros de la comunidad para participar en nuestro segundo Día de las Profesiones, que se llevará a cabo el miércoles 11 de febrero, de 9:55 a 12:35. Nos interesa especialmente contar con personas bilingües que utilicen más de un idioma en su trabajo. También queremos incluir una amplia gama de profesiones (servicios de salud, oficios especializados, negocios, servicio público, ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM), educación, derecho, artes y más).
Además, necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar con la coordinación del evento (montaje, guiar a los ponentes, tomar fotos, etc.).

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences begin
A parent–teacher conference, is a short meeting or conference between the parents and teachers of students to discuss a child's progress at school and find solutions to academic or behavioral problems. Parent–teacher conferences supplement the information conveyed by the reports by focusing on students' specific strengths and weaknesses in individual subjects and generalizing the level of inter-curricular skills and competences.
Parent-teacher conferences can build positive relationships between teachers and families, align expectations, and improve learning outcomes.
We encourage parents to talk with their children before this conference and find out what they like most and least about going to school. Prepare questions to ask the teacher. This will help you create a more effective team (Parent-Teacher) to improve your child's educational experience at Edison.
Remember, only Tuesday (Nov 4th) is No School and the rest of the week is "Minimum Day".

Tendremos una de las mayores exhibiciones del Día de los Muertos en el lado oeste de Los Ángeles, con una impresionante muestra de altares creados por los estudiantes, maestros y padres de Edison.
Además podrá disfrutar de música en vivo, baile, juegos, premios, artes y manualidades, pinta caritas, inflables, variedad de comidas deliciosas.
¡Y no se pierda la espectacular y colorida alfombra creada por los padres y estudiantes de Edison!
Making Alfombra for Fall Festival 2019
The Fall Festival is this Saturday, November 1st!
Be sure to invite your friends and family and come ready to have fun!
We will have one of the largest Day of the Dead exhibits on the west side of Los Angeles, with an impressive sample of altars created by Edison's students, teachers and parents.
You can also enjoy live music, dancing, games, prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, homemade tamales and variety of delicious foods.
And don't miss the spectacular and colorful “Alfombra” created by Edison's parents and students!
