How toTalk to Children During Challenging Times

While we work hard to continue to create the culture and community we want for our children at school, we recognize that there are external circumstances that can be challenging for families. Children inevitably become aware of or even experience these challenges. Parents have asked for guidance on how to communicate with their children about these challenges, as well as how to handle their own emotions. Family Services of Santa Monica will present a parent workshop on this issue this week. The presentation will be in Spanish with English translation available.

We will have two presentation times to accommodate parent schedules.:

• Wednesday, 8:30-9:30 am

• Thursday, 6:00-7:00 pm (childcare, pizza and drinks will be provided)

Si bien nos esforzamos por seguir creando la cultura y la comunidad que deseamos para nuestros hijos en la escuela, reconocemos que existen circunstancias externas que pueden ser difíciles para las familias. Los padres han solicitado orientación sobre cómo comunicarse con sus hijos sobre estos desafíos, así como sobre cómo manejar sus propias emociones. Servicios Familiares de Santa Mónica ofrecerá esta semana un taller para padres sobre este tema. La presentación será en español con traducción al inglés disponible.

The Fiesta Familiar is approaching fast!

I'll take place on Friday, February 20th, 4:30pm-8:00pm, and will feature the famous Lotería, DJ, photo booth, games, silent auction, food / desserts provided by the 5th grade parents… you know: A lot of fun!

Career Day is Looking for Participants

We are still seeking parents and community members to participate in our second Career Day on Wednesday, February 11 from 9:55a–12:35p. We are especially hoping to highlight individuals who are bilingual and use more than one language in their work. We also aim to include a wide range of professions (health services, skilled trades, business, public service, STEM, education, legal, arts, and more).

In addition, we welcome volunteers to help with coordinating on the day of the event (set-up, guiding speakers, taking photos, etc.).

If you or someone you know would like to participate as a speaker or volunteer, please complete the CAREER DAY INTEREST FORM.

Please respond by January 23.

Todavía estamos buscando padres y miembros de la comunidad para participar en nuestro segundo Día de las Profesiones, que se llevará a cabo el miércoles 11 de febrero, de 9:55 a 12:35. También queremos incluir una amplia gama de profesiones (servicios de salud, oficios especializados, negocios, servicio público, ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM), educación, derecho, artes y más).

The Fall Festival is this Saturday, November 1st!

Be sure to invite your friends and family and come ready to have fun!

We will have one of the largest Day of the Dead exhibits on the west side of Los Angeles, with an impressive sample of altars created by Edison's students, teachers and parents.

You can also enjoy live music, dancing, games, prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, homemade tamales and variety of delicious foods.

And don't miss the spectacular and colorful “Alfombra” created by Edison's parents and students!

Todos los miércoles, nuestra PTA organiza una reunión de padres los miércoles por la mañana de 8:30 a 10:00 a.m. en la Biblioteca con café, té y golosinas. Todas las reuniones son bilingües e híbridas.

Esta semana, nuestra experta será la maestra de aprendizaje social emocional del distrito, Jessica Mirch. Como recordarás de la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, uno de nuestros enfoques para este año escolar es el Aprendizaje Social Emocional. Jessica proporcionará una actividad socioemocional para los padres llamada Family Values Compass (Brújula de Valores Familiares). Los participantes identificarán sus mejores 3-5 valores para su familia y luego harán un inventario de sus hábitos y pensamientos actuales para ver cuáles están alineados y cuáles no. El último paso es mirar su horario y agregar intencionalmente más actividades alineadas con el valor para reducir el estrés y aumentar la satisfacción con la vida. ¡La presentación será bilingüe, por supuesto!

Each Wednesday, our PTA hosts a Wednesday morning parent meeting from 8:30-10:00 am in the Library with coffee, tea, and treats. All meetings are bilingual and hybrid.

This week, our expert will the the district's Social Emotional Learning Teacher, Jessica Mirch. As you may remember from Back to School Night, one of our foci for this school year is Social Emotional Learning. Jessica will be providing a social emotional activity for parents called the Family Values Compass. Participants will identify their top 3-5 values for their family and then inventory their current habits and thoughts to see which are aligned and which are not aligned with those values. The final step is to look at their schedule and intentionally add more value-aligned activities to reduce stress and boost life satisfaction. The presentation will be bilingual of course!

La escuela quiere invitarnos a ser parte de un evento para que nuestros estudiantes puedan explorar y celebrar las ricas culturas hispanas este viernes 10 de Octubre.

Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de presentar una mesa que represente un país de su elección, con ropa tradicional, comida, plantas, deportes, música y más. Es una oportunidad para compartir su herencia, tradiciones y creatividad con todos nuestros estudiantes de Edison.
