This Wednesday, our Principal Ipiña hosts a Wednesday morning parent Cafecito from 8:30-10:00 am in the Library with coffee, tea, and treats. All meetings are bilingual and hybrid.
Expert: District Family Engagement Coordinator, Deborah Lukic, she is our district Family Engagement Coordinator and she will present on nurturing Executive Functioning skills. These skills are the foundation that helps children realize their dreams and turn the values of Dr. King’s legacy into intentional, daily actions.
The session would include:
A brief presentation on executive functions in early childhood.
A quick game for parents to try.
Practical take-home resources.

Cafecito con la Directora y Expertos
Este miércoles, nuestra Directora Ipiña, organiza el cafecito para padres de 8:30 a 10:00 a. m. en la biblioteca, donde se ofrecerá café, té y refrigerios. Todas las reuniones son bilingües y se realizan de forma presencial y virtual.
Ponente invitada: Deborah Lukic, ella es nuestra Coordinadora de Participación Familiar del distrito y presentará una charla sobre el desarrollo de las habilidades de función ejecutiva. Estas habilidades son la base que ayuda a los niños a alcanzar sus sueños y a convertir los valores del legado del Dr. King en acciones intencionadas y cotidianas.
La sesión incluirá:

Career Day
Career Day is Looking for Participants
We are still seeking parents and community members to participate in our second Career Day on Wednesday, February 11 from 9:55a–12:35p. We are especially hoping to highlight individuals who are bilingual and use more than one language in their work. We also aim to include a wide range of professions (health services, skilled trades, business, public service, STEM, education, legal, arts, and more).
In addition, we welcome volunteers to help with coordinating on the day of the event (set-up, guiding speakers, taking photos, etc.).
If you or someone you know would like to participate as a speaker or volunteer, please complete the CAREER DAY INTEREST FORM.
Please respond by January 23.
Career Day (Día de las Profesiones): Buscamos Participantes
Todavía estamos buscando padres y miembros de la comunidad para participar en nuestro segundo Día de las Profesiones, que se llevará a cabo el miércoles 11 de febrero, de 9:55 a 12:35. Nos interesa especialmente contar con personas bilingües que utilicen más de un idioma en su trabajo. Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences begin
A parent–teacher conference, is a short meeting or conference between the parents and teachers of students to discuss a child's progress at school and find solutions to academic or behavioral problems. Parent–teacher conferences supplement the information conveyed by the reports by focusing on students' specific strengths and weaknesses in individual subjects and generalizing the level of inter-curricular skills and competences.
Parent-teacher conferences can build positive relationships between teachers and families, align expectations, and improve learning outcomes.
We encourage parents to talk with their children before this conference and find out what they like most and least about going to school. Prepare questions to ask the teacher. This will help you create a more effective team (Parent-Teacher) to improve your child's educational experience at Edison.
Remember, only Tuesday (Nov 4th) is No School and the rest of the week is "Minimum Day".

Tendremos una de las mayores exhibiciones del Día de los Muertos en el lado oeste de Los Ángeles, con una impresionante muestra de altares creados por los estudiantes, maestros y padres de Edison.
Además podrá disfrutar de música en vivo, baile, juegos, premios, artes y manualidades, pinta caritas, inflables, variedad de comidas deliciosas.
¡Y no se pierda la espectacular y colorida alfombra creada por los padres y estudiantes de Edison!

The Fall Festival is this Saturday, November 1st!
Be sure to invite your friends and family and come ready to have fun!
We will have one of the largest Day of the Dead exhibits on the west side of Los Angeles, with an impressive sample of altars created by Edison's students, teachers and parents.
You can also enjoy live music, dancing, games, prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, homemade tamales and variety of delicious foods.
And don't miss the spectacular and colorful “Alfombra” created by Edison's parents and students!

Todos los miércoles, nuestra PTA organiza una reunión de padres los miércoles por la mañana de 8:30 a 10:00 a.m. en la Biblioteca con café, té y golosinas. Todas las reuniones son bilingües e híbridas.
Esta semana, nuestra experta será la maestra de aprendizaje social emocional del distrito, Jessica Mirch. Como recordarás de la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, uno de nuestros enfoques para este año escolar es el Aprendizaje Social Emocional. Jessica proporcionará una actividad socioemocional para los padres llamada Family Values Compass (Brújula de Valores Familiares). Each Wednesday, our PTA hosts a Wednesday morning parent meeting from 8:30-10:00 am in the Library with coffee, tea, and treats. All meetings are bilingual and hybrid.
This week, our expert will the the district's Social Emotional Learning Teacher, Jessica Mirch. As you may remember from Back to School Night, one of our foci for this school year is Social Emotional Learning. Jessica will be providing a social emotional activity for parents called the Family Values Compass. Participants will identify their top 3-5 values for their family and then inventory their current habits and thoughts to see which are aligned and which are not aligned with those values. The final step is to look at their schedule and intentionally add more value-aligned activities to reduce stress and boost life satisfaction. The presentation will be bilingual of course!

Halloween Costume Swap
Not sure what to do with the old children's Halloween costumes?
This year, Edison-PTA is interested in to exchange new or gently used Halloween costumes for PK through kids of 5th grade for our costume swap!
The rack normally used for Lost and Found will be available for exchange at the main entrance on Virginia Ave. from October 16th through Halloween.
You are not required to donate in order to take a costume, we simply ask that you only take what you need for this year’s Halloween costume.
This Free Costume rack operates on a first-come, first-served basis and we will not be setting things aside for anyone.
GREAT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY
PLEASE BE CONSIDERED: Don’t bring old clothes, pajamas, anything dirty, damaged or stained.

¡Este año, Edison-PTA está interesada en intercambiar disfraces de Halloween nuevos o ligeramente usados para niños desde edad preescolar hasta de 5to grado con el “Costume Swap”!
En el perchero que usualmente se usa para Perdidos y Encontrados, estará en la puerta principal de Virginia Ave. desde el 16 de Octubre hasta el día de Halloween disponible para dicho intercambio.
No tiene obligación de donar para llevar un disfraz, simplemente le pedimos que solo lleve lo que necesita para el desfile de Halloween de este año.
Este perchero de disfraces es gratuito y funciona por orden de llegada y no se reservará ningún disfráz para nadie.

Back to Edison
Back-to-school season can be an emotional time for everybody. We want to let you know that's it’s a good time to stop and offer some encouraging words for kids as they head to the classroom.
Each case will be different, but perhaps this could provide some insight into how to address what your child may be dealing with during the return to school. Feel free to incorporate any of these ideas into your conversations with your children before the start of the school year:

Why is it important to have a beautiful school?
A student's environment greatly influences their overall experience. A well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing campus creates a positive environment that promotes learning, creativity and collaboration. It sets the stage for memorable moments, encourages social interaction and provides spaces for both calm reflection and inspiration.
In addition, a clean and pleasant environment contributes to our students being more motivated to attend classes.
Edison-PTA considers the beautification of the campus as a value of commitment to excellence and demonstrates to our community interested in the well-being of its students and the quality of their education.
